Whether it be a book signing or a writers conference people definitely have a different look on their face when they get to my table. Their eyes get wide when they see my book covers and 9 times out of 10 they do the fake little shiver then say "Oh, I don't like Horror. I have nightmares" In turn I want to vomit. The question for me is why is scary stuff such a big deal to people? It's like trying to sell to The Cowardly Lion and a thousand of his clones. Okay, you have nightmares. Is that really a big deal? You're telling me you have a nightmare and you're afraid of the dark for 6 months? Heck, sometimes I enjoy a good nightmare, it gives me story material. One scene in my book "Snowy Pines" came from a nightmare. It's like people think they have to read something that's all Unicorns and rainbows to enjoy it. I mean, Life doesn't work that way. This world can be a very bad place and to pretend otherwise is foolish to me. Yes, my books ar...
I don't know how many writers are reading this, but if any are I'm sure they will understand the subject. I have 5 books published as most of you know. The Preacher, The Bone Spirit and Artemis are $2.99 on Kindle. However I have 2 shorter works, Accents Of Horror and Snowy Pines that are only 99 cents on Kindle. Recently I've begun doing fee book promotions and they really do help. They help your algorithm and make it more likely your books will be seen and it gets me more pages read with Kindle unlimited. But, the thing that amazes me is how many copies get downloaded for free. I believe one book promotion I did for Snowy Pines ended up with over 800 copies downloaded. Is there really THAT big of a difference in a book for Free or just 99 cents? I mean, I'm not saying that just as a writer, but as a reader. I've never seen anything I was interested in where I was like "Boy, that looks good, but it's a whole dollar. I might get it if it's free." I...
Anybody out there a fan of the Fables comics? I just got volume 8 in the mail today. I had never even heard of them until I played the game "The wolf Among us." I thought the game was incredibly cool and I had to force myself to only play one episode a day. After I beat it twice I bought volume 1 of Fables and fell in love. I think they are some of the most brilliant and creative stories I have ever read. How can you not like Bigby Wolf, Snow White and tons of other colorful characters. The odd thing is that was never into comic books growing up, I had read maybe two in my life. But I am definitely a fan of this series and glad I discovered them.
